Weekend Reading

Loving Blair Eadie's grown-up July 4th look.

Happy early July 4th y'all!  I'm sure many of you are on holiday or are with families and I wish you the very best. I'm still working this weekend which is kind of a bummer. But honestly at this point, I'm thankful to even have a job. So a couple of inconvienent hours will do. What are you doing to celebrate this festive holiday? Honestly, I love July 4th (I love America/American history) but have never been one to go all out. Maybe that's because the planning was always done for me as I called summer camp home. Which they do 4th of July like no one else. Alas, I'm at a loss for what to do tomorrow. Do people still watch fireworks? Well happy American independence!

Snacking: I love this. But where is obsessive candy eater like me...

THIS video. Even though the World Cup is over for us (so, so sad) this video will get you pumped up for tomorrow.

Who doesn't love brunch? Or brunching might I say.

I adore kate spade and loved seeing them recognize these film posters as art. Wish I could get my hand on one!

I. needed. this. Could not have come at the more perfect time!

Weekend Reading

Happy Friday y'all! Wahoo! I feel like I just wrote one of these posts. Man, the weeks sure do go by fast. I'm always thankful for a million and one things but today I'm especially thankful for: camp friends, handwritten letters, flowers, and art. I don't know why but so many things surrounding my future, camp, and creating have been filling my mind. They're all wonderful but don't make any sense to me right now. We'll see what comes of it... for now, happy reading! OH and keep choosing JOY. I promise you, your days will be much happier. Much love xo

Confession: I've always loved the Kardashians/Jenners and Kendall is no exception. Love The Man Repeller's take on her fame.

The Locus of Style: new obsession.

These made me so excited for July 19th!! B & J here I come!

Career Spotlight on Inslee Farris and Roxy Te Owens via Design Darling. Words cannot even begin to cover how much I adored this spread and what it meant to me.

I loved Mattie Tiegreen's innovative and modern take on a china cabinet/bar cart on The Every Girl.

Summer Saturdays

These days I'm all about adventures and trying new things. I think it comes from studying abroad where you're going all the time, traveling, and attempting to do actually everything. So when a Saturday roles up around here with nothing on the agenda, what do I do? This time a friend and I made our way downtown to the Memphis Farmers Market. But not before stumbling across a gem of an antique store called South Front Antique Market. WOW. I could have thrown down some serious cash on some beautiful items. Still thinking about that clock... Then we finally made it to the tail end of the farmer's market but they still had the goods left. I picked up some green and yellow zucchini: who thought I would ever be excited about that?!

Then, we wandered along South Main Street, a section full of sweet boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants. As mentioned previously, Red Velvet Vintage Boutique has my heart and I devoured the perfect breakfast-for-lunch at Bluff City Coffee. It was the perfect day. What did you get up to this weekend?

Weekend Reading

I'm a little late on my Weekend Reading post BUT it is still the weekend so technically I'm not late. Anywho, life has been crazy these days but what's new? One of my professors wisely told me: "SK, this is life. It never slows down and it never stops being busy." (an interpretation. He said this in January so I don't quite remember his exact words). And even though it was a scary statement, it is so true. Life is always going, going, going. But isn't that life? That's how it should be and is. So even though I feel overwhelmed most days, usually I can make it out alive with some positivity and happiness to spare. Alas, here are some links and stories for her perusal!

I stumbled upon the cutest shop in downtown Memphis yesterday, Red Velvet Vintage and had the best time playing dress up. Of course I unintentionally found some things I loved and was happily featured on their Instagram! Check them out for a great selection of vintage and vintage-inspired pieces.

Apparently these are the comfiest flats ever. Any first-hand experience out there?

Britt Bass. Look up her art and admire her home here. Now.

A new-t0-me blog I'm loving and it's slowly becoming a favorite: A Dash of Details.

I rediscovered Shop Dandy and am in love with it's southern charm + chic items. The image above is from a print they sell. Check them out!

Weekend Reading

Happy Friday to all! This has been kind of a weird week and I still don't feel like I have a routine yet. So much has changed in the last month I don't know what to do with my time and I'm learning so many things about living in my first real place. It kinda makes you feel down a little bit. Has anyone else felt that way? I know change is a good thing but the beginnings of it are hard. Well, I was feeling very British today so I picked up a couple of magazines at my local bookstore. I hadn't planned on it but stumbled across these and now I'm dying to go back to England. Right now. Is there any place or country that just does it for you? Incites instant wanderlust, happiness and dreams... have a joyful holiday weekend spent with friends and family!

1. I haven't featured an The Every Girl's home tour in a while and I thought it was about time. Alaina Kaczmarski's proved no exception. What I especially loved about this feature was seeing her style decor evolve from her many apartment changes. Well done girl!

2. A good read about blogging: the past, present, and future of this relatively new business.

3. J'adore the prints by Carin Olson of Paris in Four Months

4. I loved seeing everyone's posts and Instagrams from the National Stationary Show this past week. A few favorite companies are Thimble Press, Puddle Duck Paper, and the Creative Porcupine. Check out their Instas!

Weekend Reading

What a whirlwind of a week. So happy it's FRIDAY! You have no idea how exciting the weekend is for me now that I'm working and don't have any homework to do! Yay! I also have many things to look forward and cannot wait to tell y'all about them in due time. Can I just brag on God for a second here?! His faithfulness is never-ending. He somehow always answers my prayers and then some. I'm constantly amazed by how he loves me, cares for me, provides for me, and exceeds my expectations. What a wonderful life this is. Happy weekend and (almost) summer for many!

For you enjoyment...

1. My Style Vita's new blog redesign is kickin'. Can't wait to do this for myself one day!

2. I adored Victoria's honesty & bravery in her post marking her 1 year NYC anniversary.

3. Have you heard of Tieks? I'm extremely interested in these and would love all reviews!

4. I could watch this 100 times more. Love Jimmy Fallon.

5. Look at what a steal this easy, breezy dress is? Might have to pick this one up and a couple others from this fun site.

Weekend Reading

*image

Morning y'all! I hope you woke up feeling joyful and rested today! Because I'm surely not, rested at least.  Finals have begun and I think everyone knows how those go over for college students. But, alas it is only one week out of the whole year and I will surely make it. I have so much to look forward to this summer: a family wedding next weekend, my brother's graduation, and starting my very first internship! Woohoo! So many big girl things. Oh and did I mention I will be SENIOR in college?! I'm have a mid-mid-life crisis if there is such a thing. Anyways, I've resourced wonderful inspiration for you on this lovely Friday to entertain! Whether you're in the middle of finals or long past this stage, be joyful and enjoy!

1. Vmac & Cheese: a new favorite blog of mine and I LOVED her weekend reading post so I'm sharing it with you. Actually, I always love it and I hope to be as wonderfully well written, witty, and stylish as her one day!

2. Enter the IKEA Raskog Kitchen cart: where have you been all my life?

3. Tory Burch's Spring-Summer 2014 board on Pinterest is k-i-l-l-i-n-g it!

4. Because who doesn't love Grace Coddington? Thanks, WSJ!

5. These. shoes. They're sold out most places but I must find them somewhere!

Weekend Reading

Who doesn't love a good picture of our girl SJP every now and then, am I right?
I cannot express how happy I am this week is over because it was definitely an average week. Some good things but overall it was a little sucky (pardon my French). Forgetfulness is a pet peeve of mine and I was the culprit this week. Needless to say, I need sleep. Anyways, enjoy your weekend and here are some wonderful links to occupy your time. Much love

1. Evelyn Henson's Spring/Summer 2014 look-book. So much goodness in one place!

2. Heart of a Blonde: new favorite blog. Especially because she's extremely realistic and upfront about her budget. Something I, a current college student, can totally understand.  It gets really frustrating when looking at blogs with a thousand dollar price tag.

3. It seems as if every blogger and fashionista is taking a trip down memory lane remembering Jenna Lyon's home spread for Domino. I thought I would join in because who would miss a chance to look at her fab shoe collection?!

4. Blogging tips and tricks everyone needs to read (I'll admit I haven't read them yet because I got really overwhelmed and made me nervous).

5. Look at these gorgeous foodie prints and paintings. I. Want. One.

Weekend Reading

Hey y'all! It's my favorite time of the week again: Friday + Weekend Reading! This has been my absolute favorite post to write since starting this blog. I love sharing articles, sites, people, homes, etc. I find interesting. When I started Gals + Grace, I knew I absolutely had to include a "Weekend Reading" post because it is continually my favorite post on all the blogs I read. I think its informative, fun, and I always find out about new bloggers and designers this way. Anyways, thought I would share why I include and love this post. If you're experiencing beautiful weather like I am-yay! If not, don't worry it will come soon! Be joyful and enjoy the weekend!

1. Again, loved this home tour on The Everygirl. This hand letterer and design enthusiast's home is super charming and personal.

2. I haven't hit the age yet where all my friends are getting married, but this article on Harper's Bazaar on bridesmaids is extremely insightful. Especially being from the South where weddings are done the "right way," I love a break from tradition.

3. Simple, easy ways to be more productive. Couldn't have found this at a better time!

4. Have you ever thought of putting a gallery wall in a bathroom?! Me either! But these examples have got me itching for my own place to try it!

5. A shameless plug for myself: I finally created a Calligraphy + hand lettering board on Pinterest to separate it from all the other art I continually pin. I've found tons of great inspiration and tips. Also, occasionally you'll find an illustration by me. Please follow!

Weekend Reading

Hoping to squeeze a little of this in between the craziness.

Happy happy day! It's Friday! Wahoo! Really for me this weekend is going to be a work weekend, but the sight and feel of Friday is oh so sweet. This week was surprisingly easy but still loads of work and things to do. I cannot wait for summer. Can. Not. Wait. If only the weather would cooperate. Anyways, I won't be venturing out into Memphis much or anywhere for that matter, so here are a few links to keep you and me occupied this week. Have a joyful weekend!

1. THESE. SHOES. So perfect! They've been popping up everywhere on the internet and I think they're calling my name. Also, considering the color looks remarkably like the Pantone color of the year "radiant orchid," looks like a win, win.

2. The Edie Parker x Del Toro collab on Moda Operandi: M'Oticons. To die for. #QueenBee

3. A new-to-me-blog I'm already loving!

4. The Things We Didn't Buy has me wanting to hop on a plane and go far way. Not to mention investing in simple and classic staple pieces.

5. Lately I've been making homemade tea lattes and I've been loving them. All you do is brew whatever tea you like, add sweetener, let it cool, pour over ice and add milk or vanilla soy milk (my preference). Delicious! My favorite teas are: earl grey and iced Thai tea.
(side note: I drank A LOT of Early Grey tea while in London. Fortnum and Mason is hands down the best!)

Wishing and hoping

As I start my mountain of school work I can't help but wish and hope to go back to front porch sitting this weekend. The life.

Nashville Loving

These are the kind of things they sell at Jeni's: orchid vanilla ice cream sandwich. OMG!
Front porch sittin'

To-die-for bedding at the cutest shop in Franklin.

This past week was my spring break and that's what it was: the perfect (and much needed) break. It was spent in various places: visiting my sister in SC, home with my parents for a bit, and ending the week in Nashville. Which I am OBSESSED WITH. I didn't get nearly enough pictures to show you how wonderful it is. I was visiting a dear camp friend and she took me to the best places. A couple highlights: brunch at Pinewood Social, ice cream at Jeni's, coffee at the Nashville staple Frothy Monkey, and an afternoon shopping in the precious and historical Franklin (a suburb right outside the city). I've been hearing praises of this city for years and now that I actually had the chance to experience it I completely understand. The vibe there was young, fun, hip, and cool. Who wouldn't want to live there? A definite win for me was our brunch at Pinewood: impeccably cool interiors, the best bacon ever, and you can bowl there. Seriously: how cool?! My friend did the best job at showing me around Nashville and I can't wait to go back!

Hi There

image

Well hello friends!
Sorry I've been gone for so long, it was my spring break. I didn't intend to take a break but because I was off my schedule there just wasn't any time to write posts or do research. But I'm back! And I thought I would resume with my favorite weekly post: Weekend Reading. Except today, Monday Reading! Enjoy!

1. I adore this video Vogue did with Sarah Jessica Parker. She is flawless.

2. Love, love, love Blair Eadie's messy bun and weekend wear.

3. Maybe one day I'll have time to watch one these dreamy Italian movies.

4. "I'm not bossy, I'm the boss." -my girl Beyoncé & other women speaking the truth here.

5. Long Distance Loving's Paris posts should be illegal because they are perfect and will 100% of the time make you want to drop everything and go.

Weekend Reading

Happy, happy Friday y'all! Guess what?! It's spring break! Yes, I'm still in college and I still get a glorious week off from school. I'll be spending my time in South Carolina with my sister for a couple days, a little time at home with my parents, and visiting a close friend in Nashville. I'm looking forward to yummy food, sleeping 10 hours a night, sweet conversations, and reading. Goodness, so many wonderful happenings! I've curated a couple links that have caught my eye this week and thought you would enjoy. Bonne weekend!

1. Matchbook's March issue: I enjoyed the piece on calligrapher, Stephanie Fishwick.

2. I'm an (amateur) interior design-enthusiast & I drooled over this gorgeous garage apartment tour.

3. I've been researching blog recently and found a few brand-new-to-me blogs: Poor Little It Girl is a favorite because she aims to show fashions for the "poor" girl (under $100).

4. Since I had a crazy school week, I've been saving the March issues of InStyle and House Beautiful to read. Can't wait for some much needed inspiration!

5. I'll also be reading Blog Inc., an incredible book detailing the ins and out of blogging. It's written by the ever creative and fabulous Joy Cho of Oh Joy! I highly recommend her website, blog, and products. She's truly a creative genius of our age (especially digitally). She's currently debuting this party collection for Target! Ah-mazing!

Weekend Reading

F-r-i-d-a-y has never looked so sweet! I'm in the middle of midterms and my life is revolving around the library and exams. Don't you just miss this?! Anyways, this weekend has been a beacon of hope for me. I'm hoping to study, wear comfy clothes, and drink lots of good coffee. I think I can manage. I've rounded up a couple of links for you to enjoy, joyeux weekend!

1. Oh Joy! for Target: Watch this video to learn the scoop. But click here to visit Joy Cho's precious home, fashion, and design blog.

2. TOMS + Jonathan Adler: I am OBSESSED! This collaboration is so, so precious. I'm craving every single pair. But if I had to choose I would go with Bright Yellow ones.

3. Catherine Baba: a girl after my own heart.

4. 50 Healthy Habits we all need to do: physically, mentally, and emotionally.

5. Levo League speaking to my inner diva.

Weekend Reading

Happy weekend! Aren't you so glad it's Friday?! I know I sure am, even though I have loads to do this weekend. I'm fortunate enough so see one of my best camp friends tonight and I could not be more overjoyed. My goals for this weekend are to get lots of school work done (still a struggling college student), run errands, and try at least 1 new restaurant/coffee shop here in Memphis. Let's see if that happens! Hope you enjoy the posts below!

1. A beautiful written and strong post on how women can lead the world, but only if other women let it happen. Lets help out sisters.

2. My favorite shop has one of my favorite blogs: cute, quirky, kitsch, and inspiring.

3. Check this girl out. Oh my goodness. I am obsessed. Too bad I still live in a dorm and can't do beautiful and crafty things like this. Props to you girl!
(p.s. you've probably noticed I've been spending a lot of time on The Every Girl. It's a new favorite of mine and you have to check it out!)

4. Usually I skip over Glitter Guide's weekly Things-To-Do post but this one looks awesome: gold-leaf DIY, mulled wine, The Oscars, and traveling. Need I say more?

5. Whoops, another post from The Every Girl.  Try this meal anytime for anyone.

Weekend Reading

Happy, happy Friday!

If you're anything like me, you've been longing for this day. A long week is an understatement. I've been a little under the weather and these cold temperatures have not helped. I need some relaxation time. Oh and Happy Valentine's Day! Here are a couple links I found this week and I loved so I thought I would share them with you. Also, don't you love this lip print from Vogue?! It is currently my computer background. Enjoy!

1. How amazing is this video? I want to go to this school (also bitter I didn't get any of this snow). Not to mention, how did he get the U.S. Olympic sweater/jacket monstrosity??

2. This precious Parisian quiz that decides the best job for you. Trop bon!

3. How flawless is THIS outfit by Gal Meets Glam?! I am so in love. I want to recreate this all-blush ensemble soon! Monochrome outfits are one of my favorite things to try but I never thought of doing a blush one. Perfect for this Valentine's Day! (I won't even mention those Valentino heels...)

4. If you're anything like me, you have been stalking not only the runway fashions from this past New York Fashion Week, but the street style as well. Teen Vogue has compiled a near perfect list of the show-stopping fashion seen: from punk, to chic, to celebs, bloggers, etc. I loved perusing through their compilation.

5. ALL of the bags on Kate Spade these days have been oozing pink, red, and love. I don't think you can go wrong! I would love to add one to my collection.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Friday

Finally.

Such a long, long week. I'm so happy its finally Friday and I can relax. Kinda. I still have loads to do this weekend but it is 10x nicer when I don't have to go to class in between those things. Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? Mine will consist of hanging out with friends tonight, (hopefully) Jazzercise tomorrow morning, volunteering at my local art museum, and some much needed catch up time with a friend. Life is so good! Even when I have a million things to do.

Here are some Friday links to entertain you this weekend:

1. Mackenzie Horan's post reminding us to be thankful for what we have, what we've been given, and where we are.

2. Benefit's new "Big Easy," A.K.A. a tinted moisturizer, BB cream, and light foundation all rolled into one. I'm very intrigued by their experiment and am dying to test it out.

 3. Also from Birchbox, the 411 on Vitamin skincare. I never really thought of it as something to put on my skin. I'm thinking I need to add some vitamins to my face and my body.

4. An extremely useful how-to for matting your photos and in a unique way. Especially because I have so much art from abroad I still need to frame!

5. Well New York Fashion Week has begun and you know what that means? A lot of things actually, but my favorite collection is being presented right now (I love the internet). Kate Spade does it again. Really loved the pink sparkly pointed-toe pumps. To. die. for.

Weekend Reading

Happy weekend!

I don't know about you, but I'm already feeling overwhelmed by everything I have to do these days. This past week I was incredibly busy and next week isn't looking much clearer. I'm incredibly thankful for the weekend. Especially because I'm spending it at home! So wonderful to be with my parents, in a big bed, and lots of yummy food {cue: typical college girl}. Anyways, it feels good to relax and I'll let you get to that as well! But first, here are a couple of links you might enjoy.

1. Blogging tips and tricks: I stumbled across this helpful illustration of how best to promote and advertise you blog.

2. This recipe simply because of the sweet potatoes, hazelnut, and avocado. Um, hello! Can you say delicious?

3. Another recipe but this one satisfies the ultimate sweet tooth. Maybe I have some baking to do...

4. The most perfect home, ever. I ran across this amazing article on The Every Girl and I fell in love. An inspirational story about a strong woman who serves our country and has a serious knack for interior design. America + fabulousness is the perfect combo.

5. Some pretty great American art prints. I fell in love with the Memphis poster and "Southern Delight" section. Looks like I might need to add to my ever-growing art collection.

Hope you enjoy! And as always check out my Pinterest page!
